Walcot Hall

Weddings, Holiday Apartments, Conference Venue and Ballroom - the Historic Home of Lord Clive of India

Weddings

Walcot Hall offers an ideal setting for a country wedding. It is an historic Georgian building, approached by a tree-lined drive, overlooking a mile-long lake and situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. You can have the use of this venue for two days in which to prepare and host your wedding celebration.

  • Three rooms licensed for Civil Marriage ceremonies
  • Ballroom with Public Entertainments Licence
  • Wedding receptions for up to 200 people

Walcot Hall is the home of the Parish family, who live here during the year and help to give the venue its distinctive character. The Estate offers an impressive combination of natural beauty and splendid architecture, with quirky, homely touches, which assist in making every wedding unique.

Hosting the Ceremony

The entrance Hall of the main house is one of the three rooms licensed for civil marriages and has so far proved the most popular choice for ceremonies. A floating staircase sweeps into the room and provides a grand entrance for the bridal party. This room will accommodate up to 150 guests and can be hired for £550 for a two-hour period, either for a civil ceremony or as an additional reception room.

The courtyardFor church weddings, or marriages that have taken place elsewhere, reception guests are still welcome to enter via the main Hall, and proceed directly into the walled courtyard behind the house. This stone-flagged area provides a sheltered space in which guests can enjoy a pre-reception drink and is lit at nightfall by hundreds of fairy lights within the climbing foliage.

The prospective Bride and Groom are at liberty to select caterers, florists, photographers, bar services and musicians of their choice and a list of local suppliers is available on request. A full-time member of Walcot Hall staff is available to show you around the venue and to help co-ordinate your wedding.

Inside the ballroom

The Ballroom and Anteroom

photo by Aidan JamesonA flight of steps leads to the Ballroom with its Anteroom connected by a set of folding doors. The Anteroom is licensed for civil ceremonies and will comfortably seat 50 guests. It features a grand piano, ornate fireplace, chandelier and two large, gilded mirrors. Many bridal parties choose to use this room for a drinks area, and for the buffet table if one is required. It also provides a comfortable seating area for guests during evening entertainment.

The Ballroom measures 18 metres x 7 metres (60ft x 22 ft) and is most often used for wedding breakfasts although it is also licensed for civil marriages. It will seat a maximum of 150 people at 15 round tables or up to 200 people with a more casual buffet style set-up. Tables, chairs, tablecloths, cutlery, crockery and glassware are provided for 150 guests and there is direct access from this room to the connecting kitchen area.

There are five large windows along one side of the Ballroom, with wonderful views over the lawns and garden. Outside access is through a glazed door at one end of the Ballroom or via the courtyard, where a path leads into the gardens.

Photographic Opportunities

The garden and 26 acres Arboretum offer plenty of photographic opportunities, whatever the season. The Rhododendron and Azalea displays in May and the wild flower meadow in June and July are particularly worthy of note.
